Animation is truly the perfect medium for the digital age, with the potential to be shared millions of times.
Why is animation so popular? In short, it captures the audience’s attention and keeps it, conveying key messages quickly and powerfully. What’s more, because it uses digital or hand-drawn imagery, the only limit to what’s possible is the designer’s imagination. It’s supremely versatile with boundless options, and the assets used to create it can be used again and again.
Animation offers a lot of ‘bang for its buck’. You can feature an animation on your website, use it at conferences, presentations and in training, put it on YouTube, Facebook… send links via other social media platforms. It truly is the perfect medium for the digital age: a short and powerful piece that truly resonates with your audience has the potential to be shared millions of times.
An animation to suit every budget
How much an animation will cost you will depend on various factors, from whether you use 2D or 3D formats, how long you want it to be, whether it will include video or stills photography, a voiceover or a music backing track. However, a three or four minute graphics-only video with a voiceover will cost you about the same as the design, production, print and distribution of a high quality, high volume print project.
In animations size doesn’t matter. If you have a big story to tell, don’t worry about trying to condense it into a few minutes. If you give the story the time to flow, and you have the information in a clear and powerful order – and if you have a good motion graphics designer – you’ll keep the audience’s attention for five, six, seven minutes…
Work with the process (not against it)
It’s important to get the story of your animation right before you embark on production. Investing the time in this part of the process will ensure that you fully work out how the visuals will flow (the storyboard) before you start developing the animation. Making changes further down the line can drastically slow things down, and add to your costs.
We will help define a style that fits your brand and communications message.
Animations bring concepts to life in ways that text or live videos can’t. In just a couple of minutes, you can tackle complex subjects, explain how mechanisms and processes work, breathe energy into infographics or create characters that talk, fly, or travel in time.
Take it from us…
Over the last two years we have developed a number of animations for an international client. Whether shining a light on a world-wide health initiative, highlighting global collaboration between countries or just making a complex subject easier to understand, we create animated stories that both inform and engage their audiences.
It’s a great example of how we’ve helped them see beyond a traditional single channel to a higher impact, omni-channel approach. They’re so impressed by our work that they call us a ‘phenomenon’.
Don’t be afraid
If you’re keen to produce an animation, the best thing to do is to go for it! The process isn’t difficult and the results are always rewarding. We don’t use smoke and mirrors – just a good brief. We can organise the script, the stylistic treatment and design, the voice over and music, and we’ll work with you throughout.
